NATIONAL authorities from 12 Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean have joined forces to establish a new regional body to enhance transparency and help fight corruption.

It’s called the Association of Integrity Commissions and Anti-Corruption Bodies in the Commonwealth Caribbean. It was formed at the first Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Integrity Commissions and Anti-Corruption Bodies in the Caribbean, which was convened last week, June 22-26, by the Commonwealth Secretariat in Grenada and hosted by the Integrity Commission of Grenada.

THE TURKS and Caicos Islands’ Integrity Commission has been elected into the first executive committee of a newly formed integrity commissions and anti-corruption bodies of Commonwealth Caribbean.

 

At the beginning of a five-day, first ever conference held in Grenada, an association of these institutions was inaugurated on June 22 by the Governor-General of Grenada, Dame Cecile La Grenade.

 

The new association is the first of its kind in the Commonwealth Caribbean and provides a regional platform to promote integrity and combat corruption in public life through collaboration, cooperation, sharing of good practices and country experiences, skills and other resources, director of the TCI’s commission, Eugene Otuonye said in a release.

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Tuesday, September 03, 2013 – GIS:It was with deep sadness that I received the news of the death of Sir Paul Scoon on the afternoon of September 2, 2013.

Sir Paul was an educator, public servant and Governor General who served Grenada with distinction. His influence was felt in many areas and he retained a keen interest in the education of Grenada’s youth. He maintained his conviction and belief in Service to Country almost up to the end of his life, until illness took its toll on him over the past few months.

 

He took an active part in the GRENLEC secondary School debating competition and was an ardent supporter and adjudicator until 2012. He was the Chairman of the National Awards Committee and held several other voluntary positions.

Dame Cécile La Grenade, the Governor-General of Grenada and High Commissioner Joslyn Whiteman visited St Jospehs RC Primary School in Willesden

 

Dame Cécile La Grenade, the Governor-General of Grenada, met pupils and staff at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School in

Goodson Road.

 

The Governor-General is currently in London to visit the Queen where she will officially receive the prestigious honour of Dame Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George.

Joined by High Commissioner Joslyn Whiteman, both witnessed lessons, answered questions from children and explained their roles in serving the Queen, the Commonwealth and their Caribbean island.
